Green cleaning?! 🤔What's that?

Green cleaning is the term used to associate the conscious use of products, processes and procedures bearing in mind the environment and potential human entities that can be impacted.

Aspects of the environment that can be affected are water bodies, air molecules, plants and animals; Potential human entities range from the general to direct users of products.

Green cleaning is perpetrated by users;  which is also the case when it is contrary, non-green cleaning.

Therefore, let's look closely at the effects of the experiences that can be gotten from green cleaning or otherwise- to all consumers, users, applicators.

When products that are made without placing cognisance to certain environmental or consumer protection regulations or standards, the process of diffusion (which takes gaseous molecules from a place of higher concentration to lower concentration ) plays a significant role. Thereby exposing the environment or human resources present.

Due to such unfortunate/unprecedented exposure, the following are some of the effects of non-adherence or consciously pursuing Green cleaning

1) Air quality is compromised as a result of the undue exposure.

2) Water bodies and water organisms are at a receiving end detrimentally with a longterm effect on lovers of seafood/ water sports and the likes

3) Exposure to chronic disease causing pollutants can argued to be heightened as a result of the use of certain products and/or processes or procedures.

To manage the undue exposure to the aforementioned detrimental effects of not going Green all the way in cleaning, we would like to advise that you do the following proactive and reactive steps (Note: not exhaustive!)

Go through your products safety data sheet or labels to be fully acquainted with the contents of the product.  If you see just scientific details, you can use Google or another search engiheto find the generic names and decide if it's safe or hazardous to use. Look out for more specific information such as Design for the Environment (DfE) or low or no volatile organic compounds (VOCs)

Use multi-purpose products whenever possible to reduce the multiplicity of exposure and manage impact.

Reuse items like those old toothbrushes and plastic bottles [Click to read up on past blogs about toothbrush https://cleaningnmore.blogspot.com/2020/07/toothbrushes-small-but-mighty.html   and plastic recycling  https://cleaningnmore.blogspot.com/2022/02/beyond-cleaning-to-next-best-thing.html

Invest in organic products like baking soda, vinegar, hotwater.

Upcycle waste paper and magazines instead of straight trashing.

Invest generally in non-phosphate, non-chlorine, non-artificially fragranced or coloured products

As an alternative to spraying chemical fumigants, use plants to get rid of pests.

Make use of personal safety protective equipments as unsparingly as possible. Thankfully, COVID19 has given us the awareness of their effectiveness.

Green cleaning has benefits for the entire earth realm. It may be argued to be more tasking to apply consistently yet on the longrun, it's better we choose our hard and pursue healthier options for us and our entire ecosystem.

Please note: The notion of green cleaning further posits and perpetrates the noble Sustainable Development Goals- specifically SDGs 3, 6, 12, 14 and 15)

Series 4: Vaccum cleaners! Where did they emerge from?!

😁🙌 Did you know that... Early vacuum cleaners were massive and had to be drawn by horse from door to door! Imagine...?! But, in 1907, just within the second industrial revolution, it is said that James Spangler had the brilliant idea to combine the design of the carpet sweeper with the mechanics of a vacuum, creating the earliest known version of a portable vacuum cleaner. The vacuum has perhaps evolved most significantly, marked by the creation of the first cordless, handheld mini-vacuum cleaner by Black & Decker nearly 30 years ago! From further findings, we see that the vacuum cleaner's emergence into a household dust extracting must-have, can also be connected to many great minds cutting across Engineers to Janitors who saw possibilities and brought forward their innovative thoughts into what we see as the Vacuum cleaner today (surely still evolving in ways to give the consumer a valuable experience) Basically the vacuum cleaner (once known as simply sweeper and even

Bebugs...(Yikes!)

Are you aware that bed bugs (climex lectularis) and the 'tropical bed bugs' (climex hemipterus) can infest any type of human living quarters and may not only be found in housing and short duration accomodation such as hostels and hotels, but also in cinemas, buses/trucks, police cells and holding areas. These organisms are attracted by exhaled carbondioxide (CO2) and body heat and not just by dirt. They feed on blood, not waste, so in short the cleanliness of their environment has an effect on the control of bedbugsz but does not eradicate them... Be informed!

Sweep. Dust. Mop [S. D. M]

In cleaning there are many fundamentals that form our operations and enable efficiencies across board and effective productivity.Even in this Artificial intelligence era, those fundamentals can't be disregarded. Looking closely at fundamentals, we find that there are some generic and some tweaked to fit the innovativeness of the cleaning operator concerned. As a company, we have embraced the fundamentals of sweep, dust and mop as one of those that we use daily. Ofcourse we know that it may not be the case 0.09% of times within our operations yet it is more the case than not... Especially as we operate predominantly, for now, within the Tropics, when we get to a cleaning site, our cleaning operatives are encouraged to engage-always bearing in mind one of our essential fundamentals to sweep then dust then mop [99.99% of the times]. Ofcourse, we keep seeking ways to grow and improve upon our operations and so are to tweak fundamentals... As our Chief P. says, "where we are isn
