To have a cleaning plan or not to have a cleaning plan?

😁😁😁 As it is with most desired outcomes in life's trajectory, a plan ensures the likelihood of good success. The saying that he [or she😊] who fails to plan, plans to fail is ever so trite even in attending to our own day to day house cleaning tasks or chores (or what ever acceptable term we would love to call it] Apologies for the major hiatus! We have been silent for too long! No worries... we are back by God's grace !!!  Okk… back to the need for a plan even in cleaning.  You may ask why?! why do I need to have a plan for cleaning too? Simply put, you need a cleaning plan to ensure productivity and functionality (in other words, it aids living well). One means to conquering the notion of cleaning house, is through a schedule. Guess what, it doesn't have to be elaborate- it can be a simple list written down list in pencil or tabularized list (typed out in exciting colours). What ever the case is, a schedule is a step in the right direction. ...

The joy lies in the detail...

Everyone can clean but not everyone is meant to clean. Ouch! a major paradox isnt it?! Yet it is the truth of the matter. Detail is essential in providing a satisfactory clean job but not everyone can comprehend the need. Most of us want to 'rub and shine' (clean on surface level) and jet off to other more 'dignifying' tasks. We forget that the dignity lies in covering all nooks and crannies; not ignoring those unseen areas and satisfying even the most difficult or finicky of clients. Pleasee, pleaseee and pleaseee, lets not take away the joy of detailed cleaning... We all deserve a clean milieu! Keep smiling...!

D I Y tips for rug cleaning

It's easy to clean small rugs yourself. The process is best done in a utility room or garage (on a clean floor) or outside on a clean driveway or paved walk on a nice, sunny day. StepI Vacuum both sides well. Shampoo the rug with cool water and mild liquid soap or rug shampoo (don't use strong detergents, ammonia water or sudsy ammonia water).  Note: TEST FOR COLOR RUN IN A SMALL AREA FIRST.  Step II Use a soft, long haired brush or a firm, non-shedding sponge. Brush the pile firmly with linear motions in the direction of the nap: don't scrub too vigorously. Wet the nap thoroughly with the soapy water. Wash fringes with the same soap solution. Use a laundry brush and brush repeatedly away from the pile.  Step III Rinse thoroughly with running water. Squeeze out excess water--a rubber window squeegee works well. Squeegee the pile repeatedly in the direction of the nap until no more water is forced out. Step IV  Lay flat to dry. When the n...

Let's start with the floor: Sometimes spills happens. It's true. However, it doesn't have to be the end of the world. Here are some tricks and tools that can help keep your floor beautiful. Whitening and Disinfecting Your Toilet!

If your bathroom is completely spotless and smells wonderful but you lift the lid on your toilet and it is a bit grubby - it just makes your entire bathroom seem dirty and unkempt. If you have children and are trying to teach them how to clean the bathroom, this might be the one area that seems entirely impossible for them to tackle correctly. Here are some traditional and some not so traditional ideas to help your toilet bowl glisten: Pumice Stone: Flush your toilet to make sure there is only clean water in the bowl. Wet your pumice stone and then scrub (gently) to remove the stain. You may need to follow the pumice scrub with a scrubbing with green scrubby. *** Caution *** Do not use a pumice stone on plastic or enamel toilets. White Vinegar: Yes, vinegar is a great stain remover for your toilet. You will need to shut the water off and flush the toilet to remove the water from the bowl. Soak several paper towels (or old rags you want to throw away anyway.) in the vinegar. ...

Floorboards, Blinds and... Fan blades!

Talking about the little things that make a big impact on the cleanliness of your living space. A couple of those items are your blinds and fan blades. Floor boards are another one that make a HUGE difference in your living space. These seemingly small, insignificant areas can be the biggest eyesores to an otherwise spotless home. When these areas are dirty, it can create the feeling that other areas in the home are not kept up as well. Lets tackle floor boards first. Nowadays homes are built and they automatically put floor boards around your entire home. They look awesome and they make your home seem more finished. Live in your home for any length of time and they are dust collectors. If you use a liquid cleaner on them, you have created a mess and they become harder to clean. If you sweep the tops of them regularly they will always look good. However, in those hard to reach areas or when your cleaning quite what you want it to be you might have some trickier areas to clean. What ...

Cleaning It All...

When you are standing in a room and wondering where to begin . . . start from the top. Sounds basic, but it is a fool proof trick to cleaning well. When we are cleaning/dusting/scrubbing/etc we should always start with the top. Dust the tops of your window sills first then do the windows and finish up with the bottom or window ledge. Why? you may ask. As you clean, the dirt and dust particles are floating around and tend to float downward. So if we start from the top you will have to opportunity to 'grab' them all and get rid of them. Things to remember about Top Down Cleaning: 1) When cleaning a large space do all of the dusting first: A) Ceiling Fans and corner cob webs B) Tops of window blinds, blinds and window sills C) Tops of all other flat surfaces in room. 2) After vacuuming/cleaning furniture THEN vacuum/mop the floor 3) As you finish cleaning, put away the products you use. By the time you are finished the entire room will be done and you won...

All In The Details!

Cleaning is all about the DETAILS. It´s those little edges that accumulate all kinds of dirt and dust and the ones where attention should be paid in order to really call your house clean! Clean, starting from NOW, with an eye toward getting an edge on cleaning. Seasonal cleaning is more than just washing windows and vacuuming curtains (although it is certainly a part of it). It’s the little stuff that counts. Cleaning is all about the small details(trust me, IT IS). We all know and understand what Seasonal Cleaning needs to be. Maybe that is the time of year that we move appliances and clean behind them or clean out the dryer vent. Perhaps that is when we move furniture (if we aren't blessed with the "furniture moving gene" and frequently move furniture) and vacuum around it. This is when you look at the tops of your picture frames and knick-knacks, clean the tops of doors and window sills. If you have any door other than the flat panel doors, then even your d...

Practical steps to de-cluttering(especially for the fainthearted)

Have you looked around your home and been overwhelmed with the clutter? Maybe you have stacks of things here and stacks there. Sometimes we get bombarded in life and things get piled up and stacked - no matter how awesome a cleaner we are. Life happens. When this happens to you, don't despair. Just take it slow... One of the first places to start is your entry way. This is the place that guests see first. Make it shine! Dust all furniture that is there, wash the windows and doors (inside and out), dust the floorboards, sweep/vacuum and mop. Our entryway encompasses our stairs, as well, so we have to make sure the stairs are vacuumed/swept and picked up. If we can do this it makes entering the house so much more pleasant. The second place to conquer would be your living room. Make sure it is dusted and vacuumed/swept/mopped. Get the furniture polish/cleaner out and make your wood as beautiful as it was originally meant to be. It might be a good time to beat your furniture and ...

Kitchen Routines Are A Lifesaver!

Usually the kitchen is the hub of activity for families, the place where guests come to not feel like a guest, and even where children come to spend time with one or both parents. What can you do to keep up on all of the small cleaning tasks? Use a routine. This is going to be the best thing that you have done! If you think of your kitchen as a room that holds many 1-10 minute tasks then it will be easy to conquer each task over the course of the day. Keep in mind, that this mentality does not include Deep Cleaning, which should be done on a regular basis. Look around the kitchen. Cleaning of the counter should take less than 5 minutes - no matter how big or small your kitchen is. It doesn't take that long to wipe everything away if things have been put away. It probably only takes less than five minutes to put things away on the counter if every time you have to go through the kitchen you take that opportunity to put at least one thing away. Remember the rule? Bring something i...

Bebugs...(Yikes!)

Are you aware that bed bugs (climex lectularis) and the 'tropical bed bugs' (climex hemipterus) can infest any type of human living quarters and may not only be found in housing and short duration accomodation such as hostels and hotels, but also in cinemas, buses/trucks, police cells and holding areas. These organisms are attracted by exhaled carbondioxide (CO2) and body heat and not just by dirt. They feed on blood, not waste, so in short the cleanliness of their environment has an effect on the control of bedbugsz but does not eradicate them... Be informed!

Hand sanitizers vs hard washes

Here are some known areas where Hand Sanitizers come in as lifesavers. First, if you are out in public, it is a handy thing to keep in your pocket or purse and whenever you come across a questionable environment a little dab will do you! Second, anytime you are working with raw meat it is a great idea. It just keeps the spread of salmonella and other harmful germs at bay. Third, whenever you aren't around soap and water for post restroom or baby changing needs. The most important thing to keep in mind is that if you can use soap and water then you don't NEED to use hand sanitizer. Easy right? If you can use correct hand washing procedures then you have done the best thing that you can do. Remember wet your hands, get soap and rub all over the entire surface of your hands - don't miss your fingernails and knuckles and any crevices or creases that might be in your hand. Pay close attention to any scratches or abrasions. They need to be cleaned as well. Then rinse. The warm...
Newsflash!!! Kids should clean too! When they are given chores and reponsibilities, it builds character; soo dont hesitate to give your child a broom and duster to help around the house (wink wink).
