What does tidying up have to do with it...? πŸ’

The whole notion of cleaning ought to be all encompassing as the definition of cleaning can be termed the act of clearing out, organising/re-ordering, decluttering a space with the holistic aim of eliminating dust, grime, controlling infection and keeping things in order.  Yet, in the real practice of cleaning in many realities, one may achieve clearing out yet not all the other intrinsic details- organising a space, infection control et al... due to the factors of limited time, limited human resources, work load, different personalities, lack of attention to detail and so on... But we argue that it is an incomplete task to to clean and not apply basic tidying to the space. Basic tidying of a space simply gives a third party the allowance to organize a space without completely changing the space. As professional cleaners of sorts, in delivering housekeeping services, we try to ensure that we don't just confront the dirts and grimes but that we also confront things lying ...

Ever heard of Hair mats...?!

Mats in the world of cleaning are aids that allow for a pro-active management of cleaning issues such as dirts, dust, debris and the likes. Yet with the growing wave for sustainable measures to carry out production and consumption responsibly (as envisioned in the Sustainable Development Goals -SDG 12 to be precise) juxtaposed with the undeniable usefulness of cleaning mats, there must be more sustainable ways or measures of producing mats as opposed to the popularly used non-sustainably created ones like the Propylene mats. One of such is what we discovered as the Matter of Trust strategy for saving the environment. Wow…! How noble! Basically, Matter of Trust being an ecological non-profit, in existence for more than 20years, that collects waste fibers that range from hair and fur clippings, fleece, feathers and laundry lints create hair mats that can aid oil spill cleanups. Wao! What an elegant solution to a teething issue! Their modus operandi is to keep collecting hair ...

Green cleaning?! πŸ€”What's that?

Green cleaning is the term used to associate the conscious use of products, processes and procedures bearing in mind the environment and potential human entities that can be impacted. Aspects of the environment that can be affected are water bodies, air molecules, plants and animals; Potential human entities range from the general to direct users of products.  Green cleaning is perpetrated by users;  which is also the case when it is contrary, non-green cleaning.  Therefore, let's look closely at the effects of the experiences that can be gotten from green cleaning or otherwise- to all consumers, users, applicators.  When products that are made without placing cognisance to certain environmental or consumer protection regulations or standards, the process of diffusion (which takes gaseous molecules from a place of higher concentration to lower concentration ) plays a significant role. Thereby exposing the environment or human resources present.  Due to su...

Hot water to clean?! Is it really as it seems?! Does it have to be...?!

πŸ’Wonder where the idea behind hot water cleaning emanated from?! Guess we will focus on that another day.  There's support in adequate arguments generally for the use of hot water as a an ideal inclusion in effective cleaning/washing. On the other hand, there's no substantial evidence that hot water results in a completely bacteria free item when used yet there seem to be linkages that present the usefulness of this hot solvent.  The following are arguments for the use of Hotwater.  1) Hot water aids cleaning: According to thespruce.com , the combination of hot water and detergent results in a more effective attack on oils and grime. Quoted from thespruce.com , "without hot water, the detergent is less effective, and oily dishes and clothes don't get as clean."  2) Detonates bacteria hosts:   Taking it further from the aforementioned point, once grimes and oils are washed off, it is argued that the existing bacteria found in oils and grimes will wash off too s...

The Bane of Plastic pollution: Sustainable development goals call to action (SDGs)

With the global focus change from Agriculture to industrialisation there has been side effects that have extreme down effects on the global terrain. One of such is the plastic pollution  from manufactured goods. According to Wikipedia, ''Plastic pollution is the accumulation of plastic objects and particles (e.g. plastic bottles, bags and microbeads) in the Earth's environment that adversely affects humans, wildlife and their habitat .'' It varies in size from micro to meso to macro debris. It is said that plastics are inexpensive and easily adaptable for different uses, as a result a popular choice for manufacturers yet paradoxucally the chemical structure of most plastics makes them resist the earthly natural process of degradation thus extremely slow to degrade in many situations. It is said that the aforementioned two factors, makes it an environmental challenge of mismanaged waste which persists across ecosystems on the Globe. According to Wikipedia resear...

Colour coding--> beyond aşó-Δ™bi: a Nigerian party events concept.

The notion of colour coding in cleaning or colour coded cleaning simply points to the practice introduced by the British Institute of Cleaning Science (BICSc) in the early 1990s to enable hygienic cleaning and eliminate as reasonably practicable cross-contamination. As we say and will continue to say in Cleaning 'n' more (@cleaningnmore), how we do what we do -cleaning- is as important as what we do. Basically the approach/methodologies involved in cleaning is as important as the actualization of a clean surface/space/environment/milieu. So where and how do we utilise the notion of colour coding in cleaning? Where: They are to be used in the vantage areas of a space that requires specific tools or equipments or materials. For instance, recommended or dusters used for dusting are to be purchased in different colour codes; sweepers, mops and mop buckets used for basic floor maintenance purchased in different colours and the list goes on...(applicable in many regards withi...

So what do we recycle...?! 🀷‍♀️🀷‍♀️

Interestingly, it is discovered that (and I'd like to re-iterate here) recycling isn't just a modern day phenomenon- with significance spreading globally like wildfire but a historical phenomenon. For this paradoxical concept to be properly practiced, it is important to think through one of the important aspects of the recycling process: the careful understanding of what can be recycled and what may not be considered recyclable. Although we have as part of the recyclable material family the biodegradable food and garden wastes which are used as compost, majority of all recyclable materials are of a non-biodegradable nature. Recyclable materials are said to range from many kinds of glass, paper, cardboard, metal, plastic, tires, textiles, batteries, and electronics. Through many budding city-wide/sub-urban/residential property initiatives these aforementioned recyclables are picked from source, sorted through (in some cases) then cleaned for simply reusing or for re...

Beyond cleaning to the next best thing known as ♻️ recycling

The concept of cleaning just as an environmentally responsible action is further culminating globally into the need to globally ensure prudence in the way waste is discarded.  One of the key components in waste management and favoured options in the waste hierarchy tools that enables  the action or process of converting waste into reusable material is Recycling.  Recycling is the process of converting waste materials into new materials and objects. The recovery of energy from waste materials is often included in this concept. It is said to be third  in the reduce, reuse and recycle components of the waste hierarchy.  Recycling is internationally represented with the three chasing arrows logo. It is known to be both a historical and modern day phenomenon.  Benefits of recycling  More job and income coming thus improving the standard of living of a person/people and/or community.  Not just any jobs-Green jobs: Jobs given the opportunity to undertake...

Cleaning provides an unexplainable sanctity that not only transcends the prevention of infectious diseases as we see in these times of the COVID19 but it also enables a very remarkable benefit in the complete state of well-being of our minds. According to the Guardian , "a tidy desk, a tidy mind" and we make claims to state that by extension a clean environment, a clean mind. Below are some arguments to our claims:  The happy state is ensuredπŸ˜„ A clean environment isn't just one that's dirt, grime or filth free, but that is found to be very organized- everything all straightened and crisp in outlook. According to the EEA seminar report of 2014, there exists a connection between a clean environment to a healthy and happy life. Basically the cleaner your environment, the higher the chances of attaining a happier state of well-being and vice versa. Welcome infection free zone. Cleaning your environment the right way provides the yields of an infection free living to the...

Hand hygiene- Will it become a COVID19 historical element?

The notion of washing hands and general hand hygiene is surprisingly one that even civilized societies can't categorically say is an equitably practiced activity.  Sadly, if the COVID19 had not forced the entire universe to pay close attention, you would find that many falter on the decent act of ensuring cleanliness to their hands as they embark on their day to day ... ... To have a cleaning plan or not to have a cleaning plan?

😁😁😁 As it is with most desired outcomes in life's trajectory, a plan ensures the likelihood of good success. The saying that he [or she😊] who fails to plan, plans to fail is ever so trite even in attending to our own day to day house cleaning tasks or chores (or what ever acceptable term we would love to call it] Apologies for the major hiatus! We have been silent for too long! No worries... we are back by God's grace !!!  Okk… back to the need for a plan even in cleaning.  You may ask why?! why do I need to have a plan for cleaning too? Simply put, you need a cleaning plan to ensure productivity and functionality (in other words, it aids living well). One means to conquering the notion of cleaning house, is through a schedule. Guess what, it doesn't have to be elaborate- it can be a simple list written down list in pencil or tabularized list (typed out in exciting colours). What ever the case is, a schedule is a step in the right direction. ...

The joy lies in the detail...

Everyone can clean but not everyone is meant to clean. Ouch! a major paradox isnt it?! Yet it is the truth of the matter. Detail is essential in providing a satisfactory clean job but not everyone can comprehend the need. Most of us want to 'rub and shine' (clean on surface level) and jet off to other more 'dignifying' tasks. We forget that the dignity lies in covering all nooks and crannies; not ignoring those unseen areas and satisfying even the most difficult or finicky of clients. Pleasee, pleaseee and pleaseee, lets not take away the joy of detailed cleaning... We all deserve a clean milieu! Keep smiling...!

D I Y tips for rug cleaning

It's easy to clean small rugs yourself. The process is best done in a utility room or garage (on a clean floor) or outside on a clean driveway or paved walk on a nice, sunny day. StepI Vacuum both sides well. Shampoo the rug with cool water and mild liquid soap or rug shampoo (don't use strong detergents, ammonia water or sudsy ammonia water).  Note: TEST FOR COLOR RUN IN A SMALL AREA FIRST.  Step II Use a soft, long haired brush or a firm, non-shedding sponge. Brush the pile firmly with linear motions in the direction of the nap: don't scrub too vigorously. Wet the nap thoroughly with the soapy water. Wash fringes with the same soap solution. Use a laundry brush and brush repeatedly away from the pile.  Step III Rinse thoroughly with running water. Squeeze out excess water--a rubber window squeegee works well. Squeegee the pile repeatedly in the direction of the nap until no more water is forced out. Step IV  Lay flat to dry. When the n...

Whitening and Disinfecting Your Toilet!

If your bathroom is completely spotless and smells wonderful but you lift the lid on your toilet and it is a bit grubby - it just makes your entire bathroom seem dirty and unkempt. If you have children and are trying to teach them how to clean the bathroom, this might be the one area that seems entirely impossible for them to tackle correctly. Here are some traditional and some not so traditional ideas to help your toilet bowl glisten: Pumice Stone: Flush your toilet to make sure there is only clean water in the bowl. Soak several paper towels (or old rags you want to throw away anyway.) in the vinegar. ...
